9 APRIL

Beat the Train is a cracking event and a lot of fun too with the added incentive of trying to finish the race ahead of it. It’s held mostly in the grounds of Dartington Hall and the train in question is operated by the South Devon Steam Railway. The finishing times were Andy Macmillan 53:26, Stuart Gloyn 58:30, The Train 1:08:50 and Hannah Cole 1:09:27. Dawlish Coasters are considering having the locomotive’s fuel examined for possible infringements in which case Hannah would beat the train in a fair contest 😀

2/3 April

The Powderham Estate hosted a popular run on the Saturday. One or two laps of a scenic 5 mile circuit. All our Coasters sensibly did the single lap and these times were recorded at the finish: Eric Foster 45:30, Katie Holman 47:08, Katie Mowll 48:48, Paula Little 49:33, Nicky Davey 52:39, Sarah Edmonds 52:40, Debbie Barnes 52:53, Sarah Moore 54:20, Lorna Richards 54:39, Leah Witton 1:10:02. This is one to put in the diary for 2023.

John Adey undertook his first competitive race for a few years and joined Charles Edmonds on the start line at the First Chance Exeter 10k. The conditions were very favourable and John recorded a stonking time of 45:39 and Charles went below 40 minutes which needed a quite incredible speed, so massive congratulations to them.

Louise Thorne represented the club at the London Landmarks Half Marathon, which as the name suggests, passes many of London’s famous sights. She went round the course in 2:22:14.

Andy Macmillan ran a time of 19:52 at event one of the RunExe 5K Summer Series in Exeter. His first “sub-twenty” and a personal best too. Fantastic running and like many in the club, he keeps improving!
